Even if you’re last-minute, you’ll find a Halloween party in Bangkok at every corner. Bars and restaurants go all out, which is quite amazing. Open the event page on Facebook and you can see pretty much any of the top ones in Bangkok, as most venues advertise weeks in advance. Since I ‘forgot’ to take a picture of this years costume, I’ve added some of the past years costumes.
Wonder Woman, Dia de los Muertos inspired chick and Tomb Raider. This year… I was the pink bear from Epic Games – Fortnite (Cuddle Team Leader skin for those of you that plays). I’m a bit bummed I didn’t get the mast as well, as I now see that it was an option to order it. I will include the link for you below if you are interested to get one.
2014 (Koi and Ku De Ta)
We were super last-minute that year and ended up going to Petchaburi 18 to the costume rental shop. Awesome selections!
Of all the places I’ve lived or visited during Halloween, Bangkok definitely is on the top when it comes to selection of party venue. It doesn’t matter what day of the week it is, people are going all out in one way or another costumes or not! This year was no exception. We started out with beers and tacos at Casa Azul, a Mexican restaurant located in Soi Ari before going to Atomic in Thonglor. Atomic was super fun with loads of games like beer pong and some other games which I had too many beers to remember what was called. Do check it out if you’re into games.
We had the beef tartar, some cheeses from their cheese selection and fresh oysters. All yum!
I’ve been to The Bar Upstairs a couple of times in the past few months but never had the change to eat there until yesterday. I was quite impressed by the quality of their food.. Their Brie de Meaux is the best one I’ve had in Bangkok so far. I loved the Fine de Claire oysters, so fresh and tasty and if you book through Chope you can get a buy1 get1 deal for the oysters. I always go to El Mercado for their fresh food selection, but I have to say, they have now got competition. They only down side is that the bar is located in Sukhumvit soi 11, which is not my go-to place when going out. Though with all these new great places popping up, it might be. If you are going out or just wanting to get a couple of drinks in this place might be something for you, they also have an great wine selection along with a good selection of their own spins of mainstream cocktails.
Yes I know guys…. I disappeared after Chiang Mai. I had to recover from all the coffees, sweets and delicious foods.
But first, check out this awesome café we stumbled upon when we were in Chiang mai called Woo Café & Art Gallery. Definitely one of the most Instagrammable coffee shops I’ve ever been to. ♥
Scroll down to see all the awesome pictures!
♥The details
Annoyingly many places to snap a photo!
SMILE!
The iced coffee comes in LARGE glasses. You’ll see what I mean here.
The coffee was good and as you can see, the presentation was great! I LOVED that the coffee was served with a tiny cookie bite. We had already eaten lunch at the golf club before arriving so I can’t tell you if the food is on par with the coffee. What I can say is that it looked amazing and I deeply regret the fact that I came on a full stomach. Also, don’t forget to go upstairs and check out the art gallery. I fell in love with several of the pieces, and especially the one of two gigantic blue eyes gazing at me. You’ll know which one I’m talking about… unless it’s snatched already!
It’s time for another small Oslo eating guide. As mentioned I had almost a full week in Oslo this time, so there was much more time to explore the city.
I went to eat my favourite (fast food) Kebab, again. The kebab sauce/ dressing is the magic ingredient. Eating in Oslo is so much fun. Pizzas on every corner, amazing foreign foods. There is so much foreign influence in the food culture in Oslo. I always get lost at the import supermarkets. The fruit selection is to die for.
I also think I have found one of Oslo’s best burgers. Oslo really knows how to make good burgers! And the craft beer scene is happening. Oslo during summer time is perfect for food exploration and shopping. You can reach pretty much everywhere by foot. Just bring some good walking shoes. I also got to experience some of the local Oslo summer scene and went to Nesoddtangen to visit my cousin and boyfriend. They took us on a fun, – and something that felt like a typical Norwegian boat trip.
MUST EATS IN OSLO.
Bislett Kebab, they have several branches scattered around Oslo. I love the garlic and kebab sauce and the (large) size of the Kebab. Make sure to be hungry when you come here. Also, if you want the jalapeno you usually have ask for it. You can also buy the dressing to bring home.
Drools. Not for anyone on a diet, hehe.
Fiasko burger, perfectly medium cooked juicy patties. Extremely satisfying. If you love spicy, the ‘Hot Green Monster’ was enjoyable to say at least. They make their own chili mix and it’s fresh! There’s also a good selection of craft beers and the restaurant/bar is located right in the center of Oslo. Need I say more?
Oh my god… it was so juicy! Pair it with the Parmesan fries. YUM.
Ice crime, I’m not an ice cream girl, but this place is quite unique. The flavors are not your usual ice cream flavours and they even have a brown cheese flavour that you have to try. Staff is great and let you try until you decide. Trust me, it’s gonna take a while. My recommendation is the ice cream sandwich as I’m a chocolate chip cookie fan. Perfect compo of soft and crispy.
Guilty pleasure
Istanbul Kebabin Grünerløkka had amazing authentic Turkish food. Though I have never been in Turkey, this is what I imagine it would be like. So many exiting flavours and great variation. I went for the Iskender kebab. Portions are quite big, so come hungry or share some dishes. This way you can try as much as possible too!It was messy. I was hungry. Which means no pix.
RØØR,fun shuttleboard area upstairs, but the gem is downstairs in the bar… where they have 71 craft beers on tap. Great atmosphere and definitely a great place to have fun.
What to choose?
Pappas pizza, for this place, you’ll need to jump on a boat to Nesoddtangen from Aker Brygge. It’s worth it, and for the summer months, a boat trip is a must so this a good reason to go. The pizzas are perfectly baked with a creative selections of topping such as goat cheese, pomegranate, pecan nuts and all your usual favourites.
Crispy and spicy!
7. Heimatt Løkka. A typical Norwegian breakfast/lunch place using all the best ingredients from Tine. Tine is one of the main dairy brands in Norway making some of the best cheese, butter, yogurt, milk- you name it. Everything was fresh and very picturesque. Heimatt is located in Grünerløkka and was supposed to only be a pop-up collaboration between Tine and Ikea. Yes, you heard me right. All the furniture is from Ikea! But… luckily for us, it seems like it’s here to stay.
All my fave breakfast items!
Hope you liked my Oslo Eating Guide. If you have any more tips about good places to eat in Oslo/Norway, do let me know! <3
After reading about increasing your greens for better health and watching tons of documentaries about the food industry with a specific focus on the meat industry, I made it a goal for 2017 to consume less meat and animal products. Especially dairy! I think cutting down on dairy was the hardest part for me, especially since I like to have my daily protein shakes which is made out of Whey (my usual choice). I’m totally with scientists or nutritionists when they are saying that we do not need the excessive amounts of protein that we pack ourselves with (1 g pr. pound as many fitness people live by), but I just don’t feel like I am getting the results that I want when I’m not. A high protein diet (for me) definitely speeds up my diet or building muscles, giving me more of the “hard” body that I like for myself. Cutting down on animal produced protein did introduce me to my all time favourite breakfast. Frozen Acai pulp, 98% mango juice, frozen peach and vegan pea protein, please try it. You will become addicted! It also helped me stop feeling bloated as I get from having whey protein shake. Warning. I did hate the vegan protein in the beginning as I just drank it clean with water…
Pumpkin soup with “cheese” bread, creamy pumpkin soup, whole grain rice with veggies and pasta with vegan bolognese sauce, couldn’t taste the difference!
Cutting down on meat and dairy started to become easy so I wanted to challenge myself. My main inspiration for this was (some of which are mentioned earlier):
Because I wanted to eat more greens
Because of the animals. If you have watched Gokja you must have felt bad at some point for eating meat, at least I did…
Because I’ve been surrounded by people who for some reason hates vegans and reading negative comments online about vegans (this goes both ways) but seeing this is such a big thing in our society, I wanted to put myself in their shoes. Also because I started to become one of those people myself, being prejudice about something I had never tried myself or even tried to understand.
I wanted to see if I felt better, my health, body and honestly if I felt less quilt for some reason.
Also I thought it would be a great way to learn how to cook with more vegetables and find yummy new recipes.
Being born in Norway also makes you appreciate Mother Nature, and I wanted to try to live a more sustainable life for mother earth. Cowspiracy definitely played a big role in that.
Tofu tast, almost same as egg I tell ya!
Then it came to the point where I decided to go 2 days a week without any meat. A good way to remember this was Meatless Monday and Vegan Wednesday. Vegetarian is easy guys (don’t take that literally), but vegan is hard, as it requires a lot of planning as a newbie.
On Meatless Mondays I would cook full grain rice and all the yummy veggies I could think of, and I actually started cooking with vegetables I would never normally buy, which was really fun. And there are so many Thai spices, sauces and chillies to play around with, but some of them you cannot use for vegan days as they contain fish sauce. It was also easy because I could have eggs, cheese, butter, whey protein and all kinds of bread. Vegan Wednesdays made me have to look at every list of ingredients and also make everything from scratch. Which was, in many ways a good thing. I knew EXACTLY what went into my food. The only thing I found hard was meeting my protein goal. I Always made sure to log everything I ate on both Vegan and Vegetarian days and I was quite happy to see I always met my fiber requirements which I’ve always had a problem with. Also on vegan days, your body feels really good. I don’t know if it’s because of the quilt or just because of all the greens, or maybe it’s the whole non-dairy diet. But I felt good!
Raw spring rolls with nuts, raisins, seeds and salty sauce.
The only bad part is trying to make time to cook all the food for the day and being able to make it a sustainable thing in your daily life. Because I honestly felt like I only got the benefit of feeling extra good on the day where I went all vegan. I know it’s weird to claim that from only a day in the week, but you should try it yourself. Right now I’m only eating one vegan/vegetarian meal a day and rest with meals containing meat and shakes. And it’s not the same, but it’s what I have time to during office hours. Again this might point back to the part where I was being more picky about the ingredients when having to be all vegan. Try it and see for yourself.
Vegan Mexican. Who would have though Mexican could taste so amazing without any cheese or sour cream?! It was spicy too!
I’ll definitely try getting back to that routine. I think it will be much easier as there are many great vegan and vegetarian options in Bangkok now. I tried out Pranaa food which is a Plant based whole food deliver in Bangkok. I had them deliver the food to my office every day for a week, and I was so surprised at how many recipes you can come up with without any animal products.
Amazing juices, vegan enchiladas, rice and mushroom, different styles of Dhal, Vegan Thai food options, vegetarian spring rolls, pastas/spaghetti with sauce, bread with different kinds of spread. If you wanna try out being a vegan for a week, or only for a day, this company is highly recommended. Not only does it not contain animal products, but there are also no oils or MSG used. You can check their menu on their Facebook page, they do fresh daily deliveries with 1 meal, 1 snack and one shake or you can do the whole day package with 2 meals.
Most of you might have noticed the giant crane lurking in the construction site in Sukhumvit soi 22. You might also have seen that table flying in the sky during night time. That’s Dinner In The Sky Bangkok. A concept starting in Belgium in 2006 and has successfully spread over 40 countries. I’ve always wanted to go, so I was quite excited when they decided to choose Bangkok as their next location. I was even happier when Tom surprised me with seats for Christmas!
Getting ready to go up! Remember to order your drinks before going up. Mmmm… the bottle of red was outstanding!
It’s quite an unique experience. You are pretty much dining floating in the air, seated in racing car seats with seat belts under and over you. There’s some loss of mobility whilst eating, but you are still able to enjoy your meal. Also, the view you get in return is worth it. I would rather wear those belts than ascending 50 meters up in the sky without them. At first there are butterflies in the stomach, and holding your phone to take photos makes your palms sweaty, but it doesn’t take long before you settle in and get comfortable. There are no floors by the way!
Try to get these corner seats- definitely the best view you can have, looking both directions!
If this doesn’t require a selfie than I don’t know!
The food was surprisingly delicious. I was catered by Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit. Tom had the lamb and I had ribs- perfectly slow cooked ribs that is. The starters were just ok, beef carpaccio salad followed by gazpacho. Though it seemed like the rest of the passengers loved it, so don’t take my word for it. I’ve never been a cold soup person! The dessert was a fruity passion fruit cheese cake with matcha ice cream and berries. I was already full by that time, but it was delcious.
We had seat number 14 and 15 and got an unblocked view of the city and the park in the background. I would recommend you to come early to choose your own seats, as the corner seats are definitely the best view point. For a better view you can also recline your seats laying down after your meal- I dare you!
Book your seats here. They are running out and are only here until February.
