I was lucky enough to get chosen as one out of twenty bloggers to take part of the TAT Newsroom Blogger Campaign launch. We were divided in two separate groups exploring 3 sites each, starting from the Oriental pier on Bangkok’s riverside. Our first stop was the stunning East Asiatic building. This Venetian style building is one of the many buildings with European heritage scattered around Thailand. We actually got to enter the building as well which made the experience quite unique. Later on we walked over to Assumption cathedral, another beautiful building with European influence. It’s quite a sight, you wouldn’t expect to see a church like this in Bangkok.
1st. stop East Asiatic building. It used to be the headquarters in Thailand for the Dutch East Asiatic company, founded in 1897 and after over a century, today, is still going. The building was built in the 1901 in grand Venetian style to impress visitors from all over the world who arrived in Bangkok by ship. It’s hard to miss this building while touristing around on the Bangkok riverside. We were so lucky to be able to enter the building and explore!
2nd stop, Assumption cathedral. This chruch feels very much like Europe. It’s a Romanesque building completed in 1919 and built for Bangkok’s Frebch catholic community. Unfortunately the original windows vere destroyed in World War ll, but have been replaced with new stained windows which has become quite famous.
3rd stop- O.P. Place. This is where the tradition of air-conditioned shoppping started. Thank you! The building is beautiful and boast of a charming vibe and wooden details. Definitely worth a little visit, just for a look or for some high-end shopping.
Hands down the best roti I’ve had in Thailand. Not too sweet and so easy to eat. Mine disappeared in 10 seconds. If you are ever around the Mandarin Oriental, take a stroll down to the muslim community and try these delicious treats!
East Asiatic building
You can imagine we were all drenched from walking around in the heat, so we were all excited to go to hang out at Bangkok’s first air-conditioned mall, O.P. Place. I rarely explore in this area and have never heard about this mall, but it was fun to see a mall with so much history. Curved wooden stairs leading you to a green elevator and a large chandelier in the center of the entrance, this Neo-classical style building was perfect for pictures. We also made a small visit to the muslim community and tried some amazing roti before walking over to Mango Tree restaurant for some talks and traditional Thai food. The main speaker, Luc Citrinot made quite a good presentation about the Bangkok’s culture and heritage and has also made a map where you can locate all the European heritage sites along Thailand. There’s also an app called EUNIC for those of you who can’t get your hands on a map. We are already planning a little tour to go check out the sites. There are so many buildings we have yet to seen!
I just finished my 6 day juice cleanse from Lifestyle Juicery. I did the Evolve Cleanse, which consisted of vegetable and fruit based juices. It starts of with a refreshing and tasteful juice in the morning and builds up to a yummy coconut cinnamon drink for lunch and ends with a delicious and rich cashew and almond milk before bedtime. There is a nice feeling to starting your day juicing, it wakes you up and makes you feel fresh and healthy, ready to conquer the day. This came at the most interesting time as I was just finishing my thesis. For those of you who don’t know yet, it revolved around environmental toxins where I took a closer look at BPA and phtalates linked to chronic diseases and as obesogens which made me extra curious to look into the facts of detoxing.
Even if some of the promised benefits posted online are still under debate and studies have shown that our bodies actually don’t need to be detoxing to rid our bodies of pollutants, there are many things that I find beneficial with the juicing. I think it would be interesting if there would be done more epidemiologic studies to determine the level of significance of these claims, as the idea behind a detox is quite interesting. How can you not become curious about something that could lead to better health…I’ve listed the top 5 reasons why I love juicing in the bottom of this post.
Starting from juice number 1: Carrot, apple and ginger//2 Spinach, apple, broccoli, cucumber, ginger, kale and lemon// 3 Beetroot, apple, broccoli, carrot, kale, lemon// 4 Coconut water with cinnamon// 5 Bell pepper, broccoli, celery, ginger, kale and lemon// 6. Almond, cashew, wild honey and cinnamon.
You can’t miss the order of these. Everything is planned for you! My faves? 1, 3, 4 and 6… and here I am talking about how great greens are for you…
Juicing is expensive but as mentioned earlier this is definitely something I would recommend you guys to try out. You can use my code “abye6” when ordering from Lifestyle juicery and get a 1000 baht discount on the 4,6 and 10 day cleanse. They deliver 12 bottles every 2nd day to keep the juice fresh. There are six 500ml bottles that needs to be consumed daily and sometimes accompanied with some potions for different purposes. If you are just trying to keep healthy in your daily life they also have single bottles available for 130 baht for 250ml and 250 baht for 500ml which is a great price for fresh juices in Bangkok. Perfect to bring along to work and saves you a lot of time. We all know the hassle of cutting up and peeling the fruits and vegetables, and the absolute worst part- (especially since we don’t use a dish washer here in Thailand) cleaning the juicer afterwards. And also… these juices have much better ingredients than I’m normally able to find when going to the grocery store, and they are super delicious. Raw, fresh and real cold pressed!
The top five benefits from juicing from my personal experience:
The increase of raw fruits and vegetables that you get in your diet. No way can you eat that amount on your own. As we already know from growing up, greens are good for you! It nurtures your body with vitamins and minerals and are high in antioxidants. Also higher intake of greens means less meat consumed which we all know is better for our environment in the long run. Another important “fact” that many studies will agree with me saying is that eating 3-500 grams of vegetables and fruits a day will decrease the risk of several types of cancer. I’m not saying you need to juice for this purpose, but this is definitely a positive side of it. You can also just add a couple of juices a day.
Juicing is also great to shed some weight or pudge after i.ex a long holiday. I always lose weight from just a week of juicing. This is just a short-term effect if you start going back to your normal habits, but somewhat during that 6 day of juice cleansing, you will become more conscious about your eating habits, meaning you most likely will cut some calories later on and maybe replace them with… a juice.
Better skin! Another thing that I gained from this juice program was better skin. Even now after I finished, my skin is on another level. I never wear makeup unless there is a special occasion (except my brows ahem…) which makes it easy for me to spot when anything is different. My skin is glowing and I haven’t been moisturizer since I started.
Feeling fresh. Your body will rid of pollutants if you are being served what the bottle tells you! You will be less exposed to environmental pollutants. You are drinking pure juice (I assume that the bottles are BPA-free). Your body will feel good from it, even if it’s just for a short period, it’s a great way to reboot your system.
Self-control. The biggest lesson I bring from bring on a juice cleanse is… that juicing is hard. It is tough. It doesn’t matter how delicious your juice is, you’re always going to want to chew on something. When you watch other people eat or when browsing through Facebook and you see that yummy food recipe video pop up, It’s hard! Being on a juice program, especially over 4 days takes some serious self-control. If you are able to stay the whole course, see yourself as a strong-minded person because you are!
Hi all my lovely readers. I’m sorry I haven’t updated you guys much lately. As I mentioned earlier I’ve been finishing up my thesis, and now I’m finally done. There were also events after events last month and I just could not miss Together Festival. The first day was quite disappointing actually, I had expected so much more from Martin Garrix and Marshmello. The second day was amazing though, Axwell & Ingrosso killed it and Armin had a finale show like no other. I want to say that I’m resting forever after this- and I am.. just not today, as it’s gonna be the Cinco De Mayo of the year at Casa Azul tonight. Though I have been doing a 6 day juice cleanse from Lifestyle Juicery which has definitely helped me back to a fresh start. More about the juicing, Maldives and what I’ve been up to lately tomorrow! <3
5* for the creamy butter for the scones! Am I weird for choosing green tea for my afternoon tea?
As most of you know already from reading my blog, you know my love for afternoon tea is real. There’s never been a place that has quite managed to steal my heart away as the Dhara Dhevi in Chiang Mai, but now I found someone who can match them. Not mainly because of the eatables, Dhara Dhevi will always have my heart there, mostly because of their amazing macaroons. They make the best pistachio macaroons, but they also have original and exciting flavours like mango sticky rice. So yummy!
It was only me and Tom who went and there was no chance for us to finish it all. You get one pot of hot chocolate, two pots of tea of your choice and all these sweet and savory treats- I think this is perfect for 4 people. We didn’t even eat before we got here!
Though the sweet and savoury pieces at the Siam Kempinski were all very delicious, it was more the experience and service that made the trick. I’ll give them 10/10 for making the best hot chocolate ever, that means a lot as I come from Norway, where hot chocolate is a stample drink in the winter. The staff is on point- carefully explaining every single ingredient of the hot chocolate as they make it in front of you. Pure chocolate, chilli, orange… So if you’re ever in Siam Paragon or that area, wanting to sit down and relax, this is the spot. The price is right, and the set can easily be enough for up to four people.
Sugar happy!
I’ve been really good with dieting up until now- starting for before we went to Maldives (video here). I even hit my number and was planning to stay there, but then all these events are coming up, people coming to visit (not complaining guys, I love visitors!), birthday parties, Songkran. We’ve been out 3 times this week, and the coming week there’s another 2 birthday parties, AND Kolor Warehouse in the weekend. So I might as well eat as I please for now, I’m certainly not going to cut down on food to give space for the cocktails and cake. Ah, then there’s Together festival on the 29th- the lineup is too big to miss out on! I have to say, after hitting this age I dread going out. Once a week and I’m already complaining about bad habits. So these past weeks have and are going to take a toll on my health, hehe. For sure I’ll be welcoming May AND my 25th year on this planet with something different from what April had to bring.
Hi lovlies! I’m just tuning in to wish all my Thai readers a happy new year! Enjoy your holidays guys because you deserve it! I’ve been in pretty much every day to finish up my thesis, but we did go to enjoy some tunes and water play at the pool party Marriott Marquis the other day. Hey I even got a good splash while walking there and back, I think that’s enough for me this year around. So thankful nobody’s splashed me with ice water yet! Let’s see what tonight brings though – you never know!
I’ve definitely been getting in the gym hours though. There’s nothing better than an empty gym. Today we met up with our buddy Rishi and went training at his gym- The Cascade. It was such a great gym. Too bad it’s so far away. We also finally got to see their baby Thea, such a cutie!
Love the packaging! Isn’t it pretty? I have the 10% solution as my teeth are a little sensitive. You can go both stronger and weaker.
The trays are really easy to put on, it’s marked with L for lower and U for upper. You just open the plastic and place the trays over your teeth. Then bite your teeth together and remove the orange plastic from your teeth. You’ll be left with a thin layer of see-through sheets with bleach.
Put on one side at the time before you bite your teeth together. I found that it worked better this way. This is how it looks! You should store your trays in the fridge for them to stick even better.
After two treatments of Opalescence GO
Loving my results so far with Opalescence GO. I stopped at 3 days of treatment as I didn’t want to go any whiter. One box was more than enough for two people actually. I still keep a couple in the fridge for touch up, but haven’t used it yet as the results is long-lasting. One tips for optimal lasting effect is to drink your drinks with a straw (especially coffee) and stick to white wine. (Buy a reusable straw to have with you all the time. Looks classy, cheap, good for your teeth and the big bonus, less plastic for the environment! You can buy a Glass or Stainless Steel straw for only 1 $.) Also steer away from coloured food. But obviously don’t forget to enjoy your life!
