    Christmas Wonderland

I’ve been wishing for a proper christmas fair in Thailand for quite a while now so I was super happy to find out about the Christmas Wonderland in Singapore. It might not be right next door in Bangkok, or even in Thailand, but Singapore is a direct flight that takes only two and a half hour from Bangkok, so I’m not complaining. This was especially gold for me seeing I wouldn’t be going back home to Norway this year.

For those of you who don’t know, Christmas wonderland is Singapore’s biggest yuletide fair and is open from 28th of November until January 3rd this year, held at the Gardens by the Bay. As it was so successful last year, they doubled in size meaning it is covering 35,000 sqm. It is filled with all kinds of festive activities and areas, such as a market, traditional rides and games, and beautiful italian light sculptures all around the event ground. Best of all:
entrance to Christmas Wonderland is free for the public, while admission charges for the flower dome apply.

The decor is planned so perfectly, which means there is a photo opportunity pretty much everywhere!

All of these flower photos are from the flower dome at the Gardens by the Bay. All reall flowers.

I googled up some pictures and did some research beforehand to make sure we got to see as much as we could, and I have to tell you, the pictures does not do any justice. It’s a place you have to come see first-hand! I honestly can’t think of a better place to hold the event than the gardens. We had never acutally been there before, so it was something new and amazing. I love the whole “city in the garden” idea. Upon arriving the Gardens by the bay, you are met with beautiful surroundings; the garden itself is beautiful enough on it’s own, but all the christmas decor and lights makes it so special! It’s recommended to head down during daytime to explore the flower dome to then walk out in the festive market area to see the lights turn on.

Come early as the flower dome closes at 9pm.

Christmas Wonderland’s Festive Market, located at the Supertree Grove, returns to offer a greater selection of international cuisines and wines, as well as dining concepts from renowned food and beverage operators. We loved the different treats served at the traditional wooden huts brought from the United Kingdom. Don’t miss out on the Dutch Pancake shop, it was one of our favourite dessert spots. I also got obsessed with Janice Wong’s moshis. They were so soft and fun to eat, I can’t even describe it, you have to try it. Trust me. I almost missed out. Her creations are vivid, and one of them are her amazing chocolates that only exists in your wildest dreams. We got recommended one with crispy pork and it was mouthwatering.

One beautiful feature that stands out in the crowd is the Spiegltent. It’s an ornate century-old travelling ‘mirrior tent’ rom the Netherlands. Originally built in the late 19th and early 20th century. It’s so well maintained and creates such an enchanting setting for the festival. You can head over to the Spiegltent for a one-of-a-kind dining experience. If you love pub food, you will not be disappointed eating at Harry’s the food is so delicious and the drinks no less! I’ll go ahead and recommend you their signature beer and chicken wings next to some mac and cheese without having any doubts you will love it. They also hold a weekend brunch on Saturdays, Sundays, Christmas eve and Christmas day from 10.30am to 3pm.

This spiegltent has travelled all the way from the Netherlands, brought in smalles pieces and set up here. It’s so pretty and I honestly felt like I was dining at a circus, so much fun.

The Italian Luminaries are sculptures of lights handmade by skilled craftsmen using white wood from the South of Italy. This year all the lights featured a new architectural design reminiscent of the medieval period.I love when people ask how to get to the Christmas Wonderland you get an answer to “follow the lights” and it’s as true as it gets. Every entrance followers you with these Luminaries.

Dutch pankakes are a must, make sure you have a couple of days while visiting as there are many things to see and eat.

You’ll never get bored at this wonderland, there’s rides for both young and adults, we loved the beautiful carousel and even tried out the Helter skelter slide. There’s also snowland for kids, but it books out early, so only early arrivers will get to play there. We also got pretty obsessed with all the carnival game stalls, we played all of them at least one time, but unfortunately we didn’t win anything, hehe.I give us 10 points for the effort!

The Spalliera is the largest luminarie, and surrounds the Cassa Armonica and 8m wide beautifully illuminated gazebo. There will be entertainment throughout the night in the gazebo from some crazy talented carollers.

Ice Palace, so pretty, this view is taken from the Sky walk at the Super Tree Grove.

Christmas Wonderland will for sure expand in Singapore as it’s such a success.I also heard from one of the organizers that they are aiming to have christmas wonderland’s all over Asia, isn’t that amazing?

If you haven’t gotten any christmas presents yet, this is the perfect place to get stuff for your nearest and dearest. There’s amazing inspo from craft vendors, from handmade items, toys and artisan perfumes and jewellery.

Prepare yourself for some taxi queuing while visiting Singapore during christmas times, but trust me, it's much better travelling with puplic transportation as the parking lot was full.

    How to get there?

My picks are AirAsia or Jetstar by aiplane.

    Where to stay?

    Shangri-la

I’ll be coming back for sure next year! <3

Big creds to all of the organizers Blue Sky Events, Gardens by the Bay, AIA Singapore and the Singapore Tourism board. You really managed to create christmas in Southeast Asia.

Best music festival in Bangkok !!

I think friday is my favourite day. It’s the last day of work of the week, and we’ve actually managed to change our working hours so it’s only a five-hour long day. It’s also the beginning of the weekend and I’m going to Singapore tomorrow to check out Christmas Wonderland so that’s also something to look forward to.

I’m sorry I’ve been offline the couple of days, but I was rushing through Wednesday with work to then head to 808 music festival which was quite amazing. The only downside was going there as I thought I’d save time catching the BTS all the way to Bangna. When arriving to Asoke BTS I realized I had forgotten my rabbit card at home, which is quite a crisis if you think about the lines at Asoke during the evening. I mean why doesn’t everyone just get a rabbit card, it would really ease the traffic on the BTS. Anyways… there I am lining up for about 10 minutes and the machine crashes, I then line up for the next one and right before it’s my turn the person in front of me has the machine crash on him to. By this time it was a line all the way down the stairs for the third and last machine. I couldn’t take the chance of lining up again and got a bike to the next station. Lesson learnt, never go to Asoke if you’re in a rush.

Talking about 808 the line-up was amazing, definitely one of the best line-ups in Bangkok so far.  I made it just in time to see Axwell^Ingrosso, Armin Van Buuren and Jack Ü. Needless to say, I was not in shape to be writing yesterday. They made the perfect beats to dance all night long. I did make it to work though, but somehow the system broke down and we got to quit two hours earlier. Fate or what?

Pretty much the only picture I got through the night...

Pretty much the only picture I got through the night…

I’m about to get back to my books, before I head to work hopefully followed by the gym.

Singapore I’ll be seeing you tomorrow!

What are you guys up to this weekend?

    Something to drool over…

It’s not a secret that I love to eat, and I do get satisfied going to a restaurant as long as the food is good and I leave there with a full stomach. With that said, it’s not often I find restaurants worth mentioning to my nearest and dearest, or restaurants that I’m a frequent visitor of. I love trying out new places, and the odds of me revisiting that restaurants are mostly up to convenience. I love steak, that’s not a secret. I love it so much it’s one of my favourite things to eat. When I used to live in Spain, it was so easy to find a nice steak place but here in Thailand not so. I do have to admit there are a lot of new delicious steak places popping up in Bangkok though, and
I’ve found a couple that I wouldn’t want to live without. Number one is Le Boeuf.

    girl_eating_le_boeuf_bangkok

They serve a perfectly cooked steak topped with their secret sauce recipe. I swear, the sauce is so nice and salty and a perfect addition the steak. And it doesn’t stop there, you also get an unlimited serving of golden fries on the side. And I don’t even really like fries, and especially not next to my fries, but this is gold!! I normally only get one serving of fries though as we always order one platter of steak each. We made the mistake of only getting one for share the first time and it was one awkward dinner… just kidding.

So if you are looking for a delicious piece of meat for a decent price, Le boeuf the place to go, ok… now I’m hungry.

    Hello Sunday

    Hello lovlies <3

Yesterday was chill, managed to get some studying out of the way. Had my paper approved and everything is set for my exams. Just need some more reading happening. Yesterday we went and had Som tam at Siam Center at Som tam noir, if you haven’t eaten there yet you should. They are a chain and have shops all around Bangkok. Make sure you get their som tam with salty eggs, fried chicken, sticky rice and nam tok moo, it’s so delicious. The nam jim (spicy sauce) to dip the chicken and rice in is also sent from heaven.

So excited about the christmas lights at MBK!!

We made a little trek to MBK afterwards to find some Christmas presents for the kids in our families, and we actually managed to get something for everyone in one go, so we were pretty proud of ourselves once we were done.

After a couple of hours of shopping we decided we had deserved some treats, ooops, and Tom had read about his cheese cake place called LeTAO in Siam Paragon so we went there and picked up a cheesecake to go. It was a bit overpriced, but tasted amazing! Everyone NEEDS to try the Double Fromage. It tastes delicious, looks the delicious and feels delicious, wow. I’m including a link for you guys to go drool at pictures, as we couldn’t help ourselves and started eating already.

I’m off to IKEA to see some family now, and deliver some xmas presents to Norway. Hopefully I can find some christmas tree lights there as every place we’ve found so far only sells coloured one. Come on?!

    See you guys soon <3

    December markets and delicious treats

The Artbox has moved to EmDistrict this month, so we have a weekend market right door all through December. We’ve never been before and was super excited to see what they had to offer. For those of you who don’t know The Artbox is a container market concept and has loads of unique shops and places to eat. We we’re positively surprised when we went there last night as they have so many good food and drinking places that we’ve never even heard of before. I loved their korean tacos, hot dogs, iced tea and sundaes. They even had a cocktail bucket place that I’m dying to go back to if we’re ever out drinking. That should happen at least one day throughout christmas. I think I’ll go to 808 festival on Wednesday, but after that I want to keep calm until my exams are over, and maybe not be out and about until New Years.

girl wearing black handbag in market

Easiest way to get her is by BTS to Phrom Phong, from then on it’s just a 2 minute walk on down towards Sukhumvit 22. It’s on the Emporium side of the road. It’s only open from Friday to Sunday. Definitely worth the visit if you’re in Bangkok!
Will I be seeing you there next weekend?

    Friyay!!

    weekend_bangkok

Finally weekend. This week has been super productive. I’ve just finished my final assignment in cross-sectional studies- phew it was a lot of hard work. The paper was about low birth weight associated with high waist to height ratio. Lots of interesting finds but, it took me a lot of time, and I found it hard to analyze all of it. Why can’t it all be in Norwegian, haha. I can’t even imagine the time it took for the research team who went through and did the studies. Kudos to them. I’ve never understood why people do research on such boring themes, but after this I can understand how exciting it can be to find out new things they can apply for other studies as well.

girl posing in garage wearing red dress

I love this dress from cotton on so much. It’s a perfect fit. I swear I wanna take all my dresses in this cut and make copies and wear it all day every day. I’m also loving my fringe bag that I finally got from JJ-market.

I’ve also been working full-time this week, AND finally gotten back to the gym again. I just signed up for a new 24 h gym in Sukhumvit soi 26, yay Bangkok. Now I can finally go train after work. No excuses!

This weekend should be full with non-stop studying for my exams and maybe a trip to a market to get some christmas decorations?

Flying to Singapore on the 16th to do my exams and I can’t wait for it to be over so I can finally have some chilling times over christmas.

Anyone else being cramped up with studying for exams atm?

    xx
